Stanburn Primary School (SPS) in Stanmore hosted its own election for Parliament Week in November, in an event that the school called a “truly inspiring journey of democracy in action”.
UK Parliament Week takes place between November 18 and 24 and spreads the word about what Parliament is and how people can get involved.
For SPS, the week began with an assembly from students in Years 5 and 6, where candidates delivered speeches campaigning for their place as class representatives in the School Pupil Parliament.
A spokesperson for SPS said: “Their passion, creativity, and dedication to representing their peers was truly inspiring.”
Polling was open for Years 2 to 6 on Wednesday, November 20, and every pupil, armed with their ID cards, had the chance to cast their vote. The winners were announced on Friday, November 22.
A statement from SPS said: “We are so proud of all the candidates and we’re excited to see our newly elected representatives take their seats.”
