‘TRUE HERO’: Resident spreads ‘vital message’ after saving man’s life in Chipperfield

Published on: 16th December 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Saving a life is something most of us hope we never have to face, but when the moment arrived, Laura Anderson, secretary of Chipperfield Clarendon Cricket Club, proved she is every inch a hero.

What started as an ordinary day at the club quickly became a life-or-death situation when a player collapsed on the pitch.

Without hesitation, Laura sprang into action. Calm, confident and unflinching, she began CPR, reviving him multiple times despite the intense pressure.

When the club’s defibrillator failed and a replacement had to be rushed over, the player suffered repeated cardiac arrests.

Still, Laura never wavered, continuing CPR until paramedics and the air ambulance arrived. Doctors later confirmed that it was her quick thinking and fearless action that saved his life and ensured a full recovery.

In recognition of her bravery, Girlguiding Hertfordshire awarded Laura a Hero Award. A spokesperson from Girlguiding said: “There is little doubt Laura saved a life that day.”

Residents have praised her courage and highlighted the importance of learning first aid.

One commented: “Laura is a true hero… well worth doing courses with St John Ambulance to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation.”

For Laura, the recognition is an opportunity to spread a vital message: learn CPR, know where your defibrillator is, and don’t be afraid to act.

She also volunteers with St John Ambulance and runs workshops with her Girlguiding group in Hemel Hempstead to teach young people these life-saving skills.
