A fifth annual golf day in memory of a member of staff at a truck company has raised over £32,500 for a cancer centre.

Five years ago Thames Materials lost Sheila Melvin, a valued member of staff, to cancer, prompting them to start an annual golf day in her memory.

They held the event at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club in Denham to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.

A total of 104 golfers teed off on Friday June 28, including special guests Sir Tony McCoy OBE, John Francombe MBE and Richard Hughes.

The day comprised of the guests meeting for breakfast before 18 holes of golf on the PGA standard golf course. After the Golf they had dinner and a prize giving ceremony, which was followed by a lively charity auction and guest interviews.

In total, the event raised £65,000, with the other half going towards the company’s second chosen charity Neuro Harmony. Over the last five years they have raised over £200,000 for both charities.
