A swim team from a school in Sarratt took part at the English Schools Swimming Association Championship, representing the East of England.
Sarratt C of E School travelled to Sheffield on Saturday, June 15 for the national event where the school qualified for the finals after a triumphant win for the freestyle relay team at the area finals earlier this year.
The team; Jake, Ted, Pauline and Josh pulled out a remarkable swim in the heats, beating their personal bests by over five seconds.
Out of a field of 24 schools, they qualified in 9th place for the finals – “an amazing achievement” said headteacher Nicola O’Hare.
This put them as favourites going into the B Final. There was a nervous wait before they took to the water, but determination kicked in, and they won the race by 0.26 of a second.
Mrs O’Hare added: “Needless to say the whole school community is extremely proud of their achievement – they swam their hearts out and conducted themselves admirably throughout the event.
“A huge thank you and congratulations to Mrs Goldspring, our fantastic PE teacher and team coach, for organising and leading the team.
“Seeing this achievement just goes to show that we are the small school with the huge aspirations.”
