TREVOR’S MISSION: Northchurch cyclist’s pledge to fund his flight

Published on: 8th January 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

A keen cyclist and member of Berkhamsted Cycling Club (BCC) is aiming to give back to the air ambulance who came to his rescue after he was involved in a serious road accident in 2018.

As a result of the crash, Trevor Hill, 58, suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital by Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA).

To show his appreciation to TVAA, Trevor and his wife Cathy, have pledged to fund his flight and are aiming to raise £2,500.

Trevor said: “The ambulance service is incredible. They came to my rescue with two fantastic medics and also supported me and my family post-accident.

“They are entirely reliant on the community to keep them operational so me and my wife felt it was important to raise enough money to fund the cost of my flight.

“It is a wonderful service and both me and my family are so grateful to have had the best care and expertise available when I was vulnerable and in need. You never expect to need them but when you do, you realise just how valuable they are.”

From the accident, Trevor suffered fractures to his ribs, collarbone and skull and some hearing loss. He is also gradually recovering and receiving neuro rehabilitation for a brain injury.

Trevor, who has lived in Northchurch for 15 years, is still coming to terms with his injuries which has stopped him from working and riding his bicycle.

He explained: “The bump on the head has left me with a brain injury along with tinnitus and some hearing loss. Coming to terms with the injuries is difficult but I’m improving and doing well. We are still getting used to a new reality but I’m doing well and making progress.

“Because of my injuries, I am unable to go out with them (BCC) on rides but can still take photographs. This is my way of supporting them and staying in touch.

“They are a great bunch of people and have been very supportive of me and organising a number of events with TVAA as their charity partner.”

BCC’s next event on behalf of TVAA is in March 2020. It’s a ride in the Chilterns with free buffet and bottomless tea at the end.

The aftermath of Trevor’s accident was featured on Channel 4’s Emergency Helicopter Medics as a film crew were on board the ambulance which treated him on the day.
