Anthony Joshua paid an emotional tribute recently as two of his close friends were laid to rest following a tragic car crash in Nigeria that also left the heavyweight boxer injured.
The former world champion, who is originally from Garston, attended the funeral on Sunday, January 4, after the collision claimed the lives of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Joshua was travelling in the back of a black SUV when the vehicle struck a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Sagamu at around midday on Monday, December 29.
In his first social media post since the crash, Joshua shared photographs from the funeral and vowed to be “my brothers’ keeper,” as he stood alongside the families of his late friends.
On Friday, January 2, the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, was charged with four offences, including dangerous driving causing death and driving without a valid national licence.
The group had been on holiday in Nigeria following Joshua’s victory over US YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami in December 2025.
