KICK START: Croxley Green FC supports young referees with exciting opportunity

Published on: 12th January 2026   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Croxley Green FC is helping young people take centre stage in their community and on the football pitch with a new programme for aspiring referees.

Teaming up with JHM Professional Development Consultancy Ltd, the club gives students in Year 9 and Year 10, aged 14 and above, the chance to get qualified, gain experience, and grow confidence in a safe, supportive environment.

Last month’s CROXLEYnews shared that 14-year-old Isabella Millar had completed her FA Referee course and was giving back to her former club Croxley Green FC as a referee.

Since then, the job has caught the eyes of more young people in the community, and five U14 and one U15 people signed up for the course in 2026.

Young referees who officiate 10 matches for Croxley Green FC will have the Hertfordshire FA County Referee Course fully funded and receive a referee kit, along with guidance from experienced mentors.

Coaches will give regular feedback, helping participants develop leadership, decision-making, and communication skills that go far beyond football.

The club is keen to welcome Sunday referees for boys’ matches at Croxley Danes and Reach Free School, as well as girls for Saturday fixtures.

Building on the Whistlers programme started in 2023, the initiative offers a friendly, local route into refereeing, while also opening doors to future leadership roles in sport.

Coach Paul Johnson said: “Refereeing isn’t just about knowing the rules—it’s about responsibility, confidence, and helping the community. We want young referees to feel supported, see themselves as leaders, and enjoy every minute of the game.”
