A team of friends, family and colleagues completed the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge in memory of a much-loved late Bushey resident.
Alaster Armitage was born in Bushey and lived there with his wife, Rachel, before moving to Apsley.
Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer and, just five months later, passed away aged 33.
Following this, a team of Rachel’s colleagues from Watford General Hospital, where she worked as a social worker, together with her friends and family, joined forces to form Rachel’s Warriors.
In the past year, the Warriors have smashed the Bristol Half Marathon, London Marathon, London Triathlon and Watford Race for Life. In the process, they have raised more than £26,000 for cancer charities in Rachel’s memory.
On Friday, June 28, the Warriors summitted Ben Nevis before climbing Scarfell Pike on Saturday, June 29, and finished the challenge by reaching the peak of Snowdon on Sunday, June 30.
Alaster said that conditions were “tough” as it was “very wet and even snowed at the top of Ben Nevis”.
The Warriors will round off their year of fundraising challenges with the Moor Park 10k on Sunday, September 22.
