A team of Northwood girls has been crowned the winner in the second edition of a flag American football league.
The championship event of the Jets and Bears NFL Girls Flag League, organised by the New York Jets and Chicago Bears, took place at AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane on Monday, May 20.
The 24 teams had been separated into two different conferences six weeks earlier, and had battled each other in flag football within those conferences. The event last month saw the victors of both leagues decided.
In the Bears conference, it was the Northwood team who triumphed, winning 22-8 over opponents Beaconsfield. In the Jets conference, defending champions Ealing Fields were the victors in a 28-6 rout of St Mary Magdelene.
The Northwood players were awarded their trophy by legendary American football player and Chicago Bears icon, Jerry Azumah.
At the championship event, the girls also enjoyed a barbecue, DJs, and games such as giant Jenga.
The two teams have now been invited to attend the 2024 NFL London Games in the autumn.
