New Pavilion Watford Grammar 2The £2.1m redevelopment project of the Watford Grammar School for Boys (WBGS) Pavilion was celebrated this week with a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony led by construction company Tuskar. School staff and Governors together with officials from West Herts Hockey Club, staff from construction company Tuskar and from architects, Synergy Johnson, assembled at the Pavilion to mark a major milestone in the construction of the new building. Demolition of the original pavilion commenced in April 2014 following successful bids to Sport England and the Department for Education for the £1.2m funding necessary for the redevelopment of the facility. The Pavilion, which is due to be completed by November 2014, will provide brand new state-of-the-art facilities for the School as well as its community sports partners. The new two storey facility will comprise ten changing rooms on the ground floor as well as a club room with a viewing gallery on the second floor. The new building also includes several environmental features. WBGS Acting Headmaster Mark Allchorn said “Today marks another milestone in what has truly been a very exciting project for the School and our community partners. The new facilities will complement the excellence the School pursues in sport. We hope this will become a hub for outdoor sports in the area ensuring the long term future of sport in Watford.” John Murphy from Tuskar said “We’re delighted to be marking this significant milestone on such a prestigious project. We have been privileged to have been the principal contractor for this project and it’s really exciting to be nearing completion on this final phase.”
