Thieves stole £4,500 worth of tools from a van belonging to a Rickmansworth electrician.
A small hole was incised into the van, which was parked at Denham Grove Hotel. This gave the thieves access to the mechanism that opens the door, enabling them to steal the tools inside the vehicle without setting off the alarm.
The electrician said: “I’ve seen reports of the same thing happening at cars parks by the aquadrome, the local Tesco and the Premier Inn.
“You’d think that police could set up a patrol van at these known hotspot areas, but I was told that they don’t have the resources.”
Sergeant Holly Cooper-Waldron, who leads the Rickmansworth Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Recent crime data shows that reports of vehicle crime in Three Rivers are in line with other CSPs across Hertfordshire, and a tremendous amount of work goes into preventing and detecting these types of incidents. In our district, we use data to highlight hotspot times and locations before planning covert operations. We urge motorists to be vigilant and refer to the wealth of crime prevention advice on our website to help secure their vehicles.”
