For the 10th consecutive year, Watford has earned the highest number of Green Flag Awards in Hertfordshire.
In total, 17 parks and open spaces in the town were awarded Green Flag Awards, recognising the work of Watford Borough Council and parks maintenance partner Veolia in keeping these areas clean and safe for the public’s use.
Over the past decade, standout projects have included the Cassiobury Park Restoration Project and the creation of Oxhey Activity Park, which have both been recognised for having some of the best facilities in the country. Both parks were also recognised by Keep Britain Tidy after being nominated in the top 10 parks in the UK.
Other key projects have included improving St Mary’s Churchyard, the adventure playgrounds at Harwoods and Harebreaks, the Cassiobury Park wetland project, an upgraded play area at Garston Park, and biodiversity and accessibility improvements at Meriden Park and Lea Farm Recreation Ground, as well as an array of new facilities at King George V Playing Fields.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I am delighted that Watford has once again been awarded the highest number of Green Flag parks in Hertfordshire. Our parks are a much-loved part of the town, and residents often tell me they’re one of the things they love most about Watford. I’m really grateful to the Veolia staff and our fantastic ‘Friends of’ groups who work so hard to keep them in such great condition.”
