A Bushey Meads schoolboy decided he was up for a challenge at the start of the new year.
While doom-scrolling on Instagram, Zak came across Prostate Cancer UK, a charity which he “had seen promoted within football games”. He saw that they were challenging participants to run a marathon throughout the month of January.
Inspired, Zak decided to go one step further and run a minimum of 5km every run and attempt to improve his time each session.
Zak completed his first run on Thursday, January 2, which he joked was “a challenge after all the Brussel sprouts”.
With a number of successful runs and his fundraising page raising more and more money, Zak entered his last week with 10 miles left to complete.
He has gained a lot of support, including congratulations from Watford FC and “one of Watford’s greatest ever players also congratulating me – Luther Blissett OBE”.
So far, he has raised a staggering £1,310.
Zak said: “Freezing, snowing, slippy – nothing was going to hold me back and I pushed on through all the cold days after tiresome school work and revision.
“A month of very hard running, getting myself fit and burning off all the Christmas dinners, but I had done it. I was proud of myself and it was such a great feeling to finish and know that I’ve done my part to help such a great charity.”
