Watford FC fans couldn’t enjoy Captain Troy Deeney’s return from injury today (Saturday, November 23) as a shocking 0-3 home defeat to Burnley FC sent the Hornets back to the foot of the Premier League.
After their 2-0 win against Norwich City, fans were hoping to see Watford’s first win of the season at Vicarage Road, but were instead forced to watch Burnley end their winless away start to the Premier League.
Watford showed strong dominance in the first half of the game with Burnley struggling to get a hold of the ball, however neither side could break the deadlock before the interval.
Burnley stepped it up coming into the second half and scored from close range in the 53rd minute when Watford failed to deal with a Clarets corner.
Hornets fans showed their support loud and clear for their returning captain when Gray was subbed for Troy Deeney, but he failed to have an impact as Watford continued to fall short in the final third.
Burnley continued to press and found a decisive second goal after VAR intervened to give them a penalty.
With only minutes left, Burnley put away their third and final goal in the 88th minute.
Watford FC are playing Southampton next on Saturday, November 30.
