Residents of Herons Court, Shenley Hill, were dismayed to hear that a tree they believe is at risk of falling will not be felled.
The group lodged an application with Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC), asking for the tree to be reduced in size.
An independent report from Pat’s Tree Surgery recommended that the tree be attended to “as a matter of urgency”.
However, on April 8, HBC rejected the application, stating that the arguments stated did not justify the tree’s partial removal.
Candy Cooper, a spokesperson for the residents at Herons Court, said: “If this tree falls, there could be no end to the damage caused.”
A spokesperson for HBC said: “We have advised the resident that if they feel a tree close to their property is dangerous, they need to request the tree owner seeks professional advice, as they will be able to undertake an appropriate assessment of the tree’s condition and are able to handle the planning process on the tree owner’s behalf.”
