A school in Bushey recently hosted a cross country event with students from across 69 Hertfordshire schools.

On April 24, the Hertfordshire Primary Cross Country Championships took place at St Margaret’s School’s 60-acre campus in Bushey, in association with the Hertfordshire Schools Athletics Association.

It is the first time the school has hosted the prestigious sporting event, which is the main primary school county race in the region. The event, which saw 438 Year 5 and Year 6 students compete, involved four one-mile races.

The race also acts as a trial for top athletes before the national championships.

A total of 69 schools from across Hertfordshire took part, including Aldenham School, Codicote Primary School, Beechwood Park, Berkhamsted Prep and many more.

George Groom, PE teacher at St Margaret’s School, said: “As host, we couldn’t be prouder of the success of the event. It was amazing to see so many young athletes take on the challenge of completing what was a rather difficult course. The highlight of the day was of course the wonderful sense of camaraderie and seeing so many proud faces at the finish line.”
