THE GUEST HOUSE: Chalfont St Giles author publishes second thriller novel

Published on: 30th May 2022   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

A local author is set to publish his second gripping novel next month, inspired by his own experience staying at a creepy location.

Robin Morgan-Bentley, a father from Chalfont St Giles, is excited for readers to get their hands on his latest work, titled The Guest House.

The Guest House is about a young married couple, Jamie and Victoria, who are expecting their first baby. Towards the end of the pregnancy, they head off for a babymoon and check-in to a remote guest house in the north Pennines.

They are greeted by the owners and are taken up to their room. The next morning, the nightmare begins as they wake up and all the doors are locked. Their mobile phones and car keys have disappeared. And Victoria can feel her contractions starting.

Robin said: “I’m really excited to see the book in bookshops. My first book, The Wreckage, was published just as the pandemic hit and everything shut down.  I am very lucky to be traditionally published, but the first time round missed out on some of the experiences of a first-time author because of COVID. This time around, you might find me in local bookshops looking lovingly at my own book on the shelves!”

Robin added that inspiration for his book came from staying at a creepy B&B in The Cotswolds in 2018, which made him think about how we trust staying in strangers houses, and what might happen in the worst-case scenario.

He added: “People often talk about a writer being either a planner or a “pantser” (the opposite of a planner) and I’m definitely in the second camp. I just open up a document and see where the story takes me. This time round I did the writing at home, in lockdown, with my new born son in the next room.  It was challenging, but I got there in the end.

“I love hearing from readers. If you pick up a copy, do get in touch with me and I’ll be happy to send you a signed and personalised bookplate to put inside the book.  And tell me what you think of the book. Unless you hate it, that is!
