Matt Turmaine, MP for Watford, was joined by 23 carers for an event in Parliament on Tuesday, October 8.
The event was supported by Carers UK and its supported charities: Age UK, Carers Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association, The ME Association, Oxfam GB, Rethink Mental Illness, and The Lewy Body Society.
Mr Turmaine MP heard about the carers’ experiences and learned about the challenges they face, as well as acknowledging the crucial contribution they make to families and communities.
The MP, who worked in the field of health and social care before being elected to Parliament in July, was one of 111 MPs and Members of the House of Lords to show their support for unpaid carers at the event.
Speaking to WATFORDnews, he said: “These unpaid carers effectively save the NHS over £160billion a year but their contribution to those they care for and their dedication is priceless.”
