An Amersham resident is cycling to Ukraine to raise money for the United Humanitarian Front.
Tom Harrison set off from Amersham on Monday, September 9, and will travel to Harwich in Essex to board the ferry to Rotterdam.
From there, Tom will cycle around 90 miles a day and plans to follow the sunrise.
He said: “There is no specific plan, but I will just keep peddling until I get there.”
Lviv is close to the Polish border and is not without risk. Recently, it was struck by Russian missiles.
When asked about the potential danger, Tom said: “There is a small risk, but then there’s risk to cycling.
“I can’t let the fact that Putin sporadically sends missiles stop me, and I am only there for one night.
“The poor Ukrainians have no choice but to stay.”
When asked why he feels so passionate about the cause, he added: “I don’t like bullies, and Putin is a bully who is trying to dominate a smaller neighbour.
“There is so much death and destruction on both sides and you can either watch with feelings of hopelessness or you can do something about it.
“I want to send a message of hope to Ukraine, that they are not alone and people are still thinking about them.”
Tom has previously completed a number of unusual fundraising challenges, including walking across England with no money and completing the London Marathon backwards.
