TERRIFIC TREK: Chalfont Cubs walk 10km through the Chilterns in endurance challenge

A group of Cubs from Chalfont St Giles joined more than 700 Scouts of all ages for a Buckinghamshire Scouts’ Endurance event.

The 1st Chalfont St Giles group completed a 10km hike between Chesham and Great Missenden, along the Ridgeway National Trail, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Young Cub Harcharan said: “Completing the 10km walk this year was not as tiring as last year. I know the walk will go towards several of my badges. I like playing dodgeball at Cubs and climbing was really exciting.”

As well as the Cubs, Scouts walked 40km treks along the trial, while some older Explorer Scouts hiked 60km, with a select few even managing to complete the incredible achievement of an 80km walk.

Adult volunteer and organiser of the event Clare Clarke said said: “One of the reasons I volunteer is to be at events like this. Many of the Cubs have never walked 10km before and I’m sure they’ll be very proud when they get their Hikes Away badge.”
