Rickmansworth Lawn Tennis Club (RLTC) won Hertfordshire’s premier knockout competition, the Harris Cup, on Sunday, October 8.
In a nerve-wracking final at St Albans’ Townsend Tennis Club, the Ricky team – made up of Chris Grassick, Oli Foran, Joe Randall and Jordan Miles – beat the match hosts 4-0 to win the trophy.
The team were led by their inspirational captain Mark O’Brien, who just two weeks previously completed his attempt to break the world record for longest unaided open water swim for a person living with motor neurone disease.
The Harris Cup triumph rounds off a fantastic 2023 summer season of competitive tennis, with RLTC’s Men’s A, Mixed A and Ladies C all finishing as champions of their divisions, and the Mixed B, Mixed C and Ladies B teams all achieving promotion.
RLTC has also had great success in the weekend tennis leagues, with the Men’s First Team winning the Hot Rackets Premier Division and Herts League Division 1. The Men’s 4 and Ladies 3 also achieved promotion.
New players are always welcome to come along to the club on Meadow Way on Saturdays between 1.30pm and 4pm.
