A motion addressing the issue of damp and mould in social housing has been proposed by councillor Dawn Allen-Williamson and seconded by councillor Glen Saffery.
The motion follows national concern raised after the death of a two-year-old child in 2020, which was linked to prolonged exposure to mould.
Councillors noted that a significant number of homes in Watford are managed by housing associations, and that ongoing complaints from residents about damp and mould remain unresolved for long periods.
The motion calls on the council to write to all major housing associations requesting detailed reports on the number of affected properties, repair response times, and action plans to prevent future cases.
It also urges the Mayor of Watford and Watford Borough Council to work closely with housing providers, use enforcement powers where necessary, and provide a comprehensive progress update to Full Council within six months.
