A burglar from South Oxhey broke down in tears in the dock today (September 24) when he was jailed for two years.
Scott Walsh-Fleming, 35, was with an accomplice when a home in Oxhey Avenue, Watford was broken into early in the morning last September.
They escaped with the owners new Mazda car and a designer handbag that had been bought for her by her daughter, St Albans Crown Court heard.
In a victim personal statement the woman said the handbag was of sentimental value and she suffered a £1,500 loss when the car insurer paid out.
Walsh-Fleming appeared for sentencing having been convicted by a jury of burglary. He had 18 convictions for 42 offences.
Defending, Daniel Jameson said Walsh-Fleming had been working as a builder, but in an accident at work had lost a thumb.
He said: “He didn’t work, couldn’t work and drugs took over. He was using crack and heroin.”
Jailing him, Judge Michael Kay QC said the victim had suffered considerably since the burglary.
