A group of teens from Hemel Hempstead and Kings Langley have decided to replicate their challenge from last year with an even bigger mission.
In September last year, HEMELnews shared the story of Jayden Davies, who along with his friends took on the 4x4x48 challenge and raised £10,000 for Cancer Research UK. The challenge saw the boys run four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
Reflecting on last year’s challenge, Jayden told HEMELnews: “I remember we were all at a party and I got a message from my parents saying that my grandad had donated the last bit to get us over the £10,000 mark.
“I ran straight inside and shouted that we had hit it, and we all started jumping around. None of our other friends knew what was happening!”
This year, Jayden has recruited his friends Louis Rumble, Kaviarasan Vijayakumar, Taylor Rose, Jackson Mills and Tom Sindall, to take on an even bigger challenge. This time, they will be running 96 miles in 96 hours.
Jayden said: “After the last challenge, I left it a couple of months before messaging the group chat to ask if we should do another. And they all said yes!
“Training is more intense this time around as we just winged it a bit last time.”
After discussing who to raise money for this time, the group decided on The Hospice of St Francis, a cause close to their hearts. The group are using their TikTok and Instagram pages to document their journey, as well as conducting interviews with nurses from the hospice to shed light on their work.
Jayden continued: “Because it’s for charity, people are more than happy to help. I’m not really a very confident person, but to have that support from the community feels amazing.”
