Work has begun to save a Grade II listed pub in Rickmansworth.
The Tree pub on Uxbridge Road has been slowly falling into disrepair in recent years.
Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) instructed the owners of the pub to tend to the rapidly degenerating building following a campaign led by local activist Mike Sims.
In June, initial works were undertaken to clear the site of debris and overgrown vegetation.
Mike said: “We stopped it falling down, but they’ve got a lot more to do; they’ve got to sort a new sign, make the windows and doors secure, et cetera.”
A spokesperson for TRDC said: “Officers remain in communication with the landowner and have requested that they undertake a few more remedial works in the coming weeks. If those requested works do not take place, a judgement would be required as to whether any further action is required.”
The owners declined to comment.
Mike is in the process of discussing with residents what they think should be done with the building.

it should restored and turned back into a pub this pub like loads of dthers hold loads of memories for local residents. and tradition is important. we dont need anymore houses round here
It wont ever be viable as a pub again…no parking. Also social habits have changed people drink at home now. I think a change of use to residential could save it..it would make stunning home iif converted carefully in tandem with English heritage.
Why not a community takeover and turn it back into a pub with local people having a stake in it ,keep it safe and if its run by locals should anyone act up they will be up against their own .
This old pub should given a new lease of life and restored to be a pub again for the Rickmansworth community
Keep it as a pub please. You shud be walking or cabbing to a pub in any case if you are drinking!!
Would be great if it stayed as a pub
