When a Bushey resident was going through a difficult time, she didn’t know the answer to her problems would come strutting in as a golden retriever with the swagger of a future champion.
Karen Williams bought Xavier during the COVID-19 lockdown and, though it wasn’t all ribbons and rosettes, she knew her four-legged friend had potential.
She told BUSHEYnews: “He missed his puppy and junior career as shows were cancelled. When he won his class at Newbury in the first show of 2021, I knew there was something special about him.
“From there, the momentum built – big wins, including a First at Crufts, but also a fair share of near-misses. I started to think we’d always be the bridesmaid.”
At the Bournemouth Canine Society Championship Show on Sunday, August 10, Xavier proved himself once more. Finally taking the crown, he was awarded his full Champion title.
Karen said: “Xavi has also proved himself on a local shoot. That means he’s a full champion in the Kennel Club’s eyes – not just a beauty, but brains and skill too.”
