The mylocalnews towers welcomed the CEO of a Watford charity to celebrate the team’s fundraising efforts.
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, mylocalnews hosted the seventh mylocalHERO event, an awards evening that celebrates the heroes of the community and raises money for local charities.
One of the chosen charities was Watford-based Small Acts of Kindness, which was set up by Lynne Misner to reduce loneliness and isolation for older and vulnerable people by connecting communities with kindness.
The event raised £3,000 for the charity, which will go towards creating Warm in Winter gift bags for older people who are struggling to heat their homes.
On Tuesday, February 18, Lynne visited the office to thank the mylocalnews team, and receive the cheque from editor Nik Allen.
Lynne said: “We are thankful for the support and generosity; this money will help keep up to 100 people warmer in their homes, many of whom are lonely. Receiving a bag not only helps them to keep warm, but shows that someone cares, creating a feeling of connection.
“It’s important as we have a shared responsibility to help the older generation and people in our community.”
Every winter, the charity aims to reach 12,000 older people. If you would like to make a difference and help keep an older person warm this winter, please visit www.smallactsofkindness.co.uk/warm-this-winter and donate £35 for a Small Acts of Kindness Warm in Winter gift bag.
