A local training group is hoping to support more young people on their journey to employment through classes, opportunities and guidance.
KC Wex Training (KCWT) is an “innovative and high-quality learning provider” that teaches skills to young people aged 14 to 18 who may have struggled in school. They aim to help the youngsters achieve their goals, exceed expectations, and take their first steps on the employment ladder.
Speaking to TRINGnews, Lewis Potton, one of the directors of KCWT, said: “We saw a need for these students who were slipping through the gaps. Mainstream schools are so overwhelmed and often can’t deal with the students we deal with. Some have behavioural problems or auditory issues, for example. There isn’t enough time or resources in mainstream schools for them.”
Lewis, who previously worked in the building trade, explained that he and many of his colleagues in the labouring industry admitted that school didn’t work for them. He explained that “education isn’t the route for everyone”.
KCWT operates from its Aylesbury centre, however, last year the group took over running Dunsley Farm Shop in Tring. They now offer students the opportunity to help run the enterprise by restocking the store, checking dates on products, serving customers, cleaning, cooking, and more.
Lewis admitted that finding staff was “difficult”, but the outcome of seeing what the students achieve is worth it.
He continued: “When they start with us, having spent so much time in mainstream schools, they think they can’t do it. Seeing them achieve something and get that certificate, it’s the best part!”
