A Ruislip author has released a book exploring influential footballers from the 1960s and 70s.
Super Squad, written by part-time civil servant and first-time author Colin Whelan, tells the story of 23 footballers who had the greatest influence on English football.
Colin explains: “There’s a generation of us football fans who lived through the greatest era of English football, and we didn’t even know it.
“This book offers my own retrospection as to why and how this era now feels so special; and how it came to pass, that, specifically, a ‘squad’ of 23 footballers laid the path for the game as it exists today.”
The book deals with the significance of the abolition of the ‘maximum wage’, and also touches upon the huge influence of television on the sport.
