SUPER SALLY: BAFTA-nominated writer from The Chalfonts opens business to deliver ‘love and hope’

A resident from Chalfont St Peter, who has worked on BAFTA-nominated TV programmes, has spoken of the importance of “doing the things that make you happy”.

When she left university to work in the TV industry as a receptionist, Sally Rosser couldn’t have realised where her career would take her.

Giving her opinions about new scripts to anyone who would listen, Sally determinedly chased her dreams of working in drama and went on to work in casting, writing and producing.

She quickly made a name in the industry, working on various titles from Red Dwarf to EastEnders specials. One of her productions was nominated for two BAFTAs.

She also developed and wrote the CBBC show Jamie Johnson, which follows a boy as he tries to become a professional football player. The show received BAFTA and Emmy nominations.

Also writing for Sky and 5, Sally eventually took a step back from her work in television for her family.

Speaking to CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews, Sally said: “I lost confidence [after having children]. Being a working mum who’s had time away, you lose your resilience and it can be really brutal out there. You don’t always remember who you were before.”

During a skiing accident years later, Sally broke multiple bones and spent months in recovery, which left her with “a lot of time to think about things”.

This moment planted a seed which led her to ask her neighbour and friend Jeanette Koski to join her in starting The Pretty Witty Company, which produces illustrated bespoke poetry.

Of this new venture, Sally said: “This feels like my perfect job. I enjoy it more than anything I have ever done, which is saying a lot when you’ve been on a TV set you have built from scratch.

“It is so much better because you are making such a difference to a person when they cry, laugh and feel really loved.”

Pretty Witty’s poems have been delivering messages of hope and love to a variety of people, including NHS workers during lockdown and people with dementia.

When asked what message she would like to share with The Chalfonts community, Sally said: “It is important that if you have any sort of artistic passion, just have a go. It’s so important to do the things that make you happy.”
