There was nothing but smiles at Lidl this morning for their new store opening in Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead.
In attendance was Mayor of Dacorum councillor Brenda Link, who helped the children of the new staff cut the ceremonial ribbon.
The shelves were stocked full of fresh produce, the aisles were clean and the staff had smiles on their faces as they welcomed in new customers.
Inside, they had a spin-the-wheel competition where hopeful shoppers could spin to win a selection of prizes, as well as a selection of free food.
Located on Tudor Road, the store has created 40 new jobs for local people.
The store is now open between 8am and 10pm from Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
Jason Buckley, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: “We are thrilled to be opening our first-ever store in Hemel Hempstead, especially as demand for our affordable products continues to grow throughout the country.
“This new store has created a host of high-paying jobs for locals, while enhancing access to our high-quality, affordable products. We would like to thank all those who have played a part in delivering this new store and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors in the coming weeks.”
This year Lidl celebrates its 30th anniversary, with Hemel being the newest edition to their 960 stores in England, Scotland and Wales.

I live a short walk from your new Hemel store and am looking forward to trying it out, in the hope that your prices will beat Tescos.
I was really unhappy back in 2024, because moving to Hemel I did not have any Lidl in here. And I love shopping at Lidl. I was talking to a nice chap from customer team and I ask them to build a Lidl in Hemel, because we are desperate. And then THIS happened. I am so happy now, having Lidl somehow closer to my home. Thank you so much to make tis happen.
