Residents in Bushey are invited to take part in a free Winter Reads challenge, which is returning after it was hailed as a success last year.

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) is running its Winter Reads challenge across the county until January 31, 2025.

The event, which began on Friday, November 1, was a hit last winter, with 3,600 residents of all ages signing up to take part.

All participants are asked to complete challenges which range in difficulty and are suitable for both adults and children.

Anyone can take part by picking up a bookmark or challenge card from any library in the county.

Once the challenges have been completed, participants will be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad or other book-related prizes.

Councillor Caroline Clapper, executive member for education, libraries and lifelong learning at HCC, said: “We are using this year’s Winter Reads challenge to encourage all our residents to snuggle up with a good book and enjoy the wellbeing and developmental benefits of reading.

“I’d encourage everyone to pop into their local library to see for themselves what a vibrant and engaging community space they are.”
