SUCKERPUNCH: St Albans cocktail bar forced to close amidst cost-of-living crisis

Published on: 25th November 2022   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

The cost-of-living crisis has forced a much-loved cocktail bar in St Albans to close its doors.

Suckerpunch bar, located on George Street, announced it was permanently closing on October 13 due to a litany of pressurising circumstances.

A spokesperson for Suckerpunch said: “With the current financial climate, the drop in the hospitality trade, the after-effects of COVID-19, increased business rates and other factors out of our control, we have been left with no choice but to permanently close down the bar with immediate effect.”

Owners Guy Sutherland and Alex Frankl were able to offer a silver lining to this disappointing news, as they assured residents that their other St Albans bar, Punchin’ Palooka, would remain open and will provide the “the same quality of cocktails, service and atmosphere you enjoy and love”.

Punchin’ Palooka recently won Hertfordshire’s Best Newcomer Bar at the Enjoy St Albans Food & Drink Festival Awards 2022 and can be found at 26 Verulam Road.
