SORRY SHOWING: Watford battered by rampant City

Published on: 22nd September 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Watford FC

Premier League champions Manchester City tore Watford FC apart in Quique Sánchez Flores’s second game back in charge, thrashing them 8-0.

Flores could only apologise to fans after the match yesterday afternoon (Saturday, September 21), who watched in horror as Watford conceded five goals in the opening 20 minutes at the Etihad stadium.

Bernardo Silva then added a second-half brace to his earlier goal and Kevin De Bruyne wrapped up the match with the eighth.

After the match, Flores said: “First we have to say sorry to the fans because they came to the stadium waiting for a good performance from the team and it was very difficult to be on the pitch today.

“After 30 seconds we realised it would be very tough and then after 15 minutes it was impossible to play like this.”

“It’s a very bad day for us – we conceded easy goals. We just need to say sorry to the fans, we will go for the next match and we’ll try to prevent this (same) situation.”

The result means Watford remain bottom of the table with two points.

The fans will have a welcome break from the Premier League when they take on Swansea City at home in the Carabao Cup next Tuesday.
