The St Albans Community came together recently to help a resident whose home was struck by flooding after wet weather.
Many businesses and residents alike stepped up to offer their services whether that be a friendly face, home repairs or food deliveries.
Nicola Mcdonald was amongst those who have stepped up after sharing an appeal on a community Facebook group.
She said: “Whilst on walks with my other half and little boy we passed there and we started noticing flooding all the way up to their house.
“It was just a real shame to see so my other half reached out on Instagram and a man came out of nowhere to donate sandbags to help with flooding.
“There were so many problems with the house, and it was just a bit of a shame and I wanted to help and thought the only way to do it would be through Facebook.”
Nicola added that the community response has been incredible including from several local business owners who have offered to make vital repairs to their home.
She said: “Within three hours, I think I had 80 people offering their time and help. It was incredible.
“Actually within half an hour of me posting that, London Drainage Services came out and unblocked the drain and helped out all for free.
“I could go on and on. Everybody just offered anything. People that don’t have much themselves have just said look if they need anything.”
Nicola added that the resident is extremely grateful for the heart-warming response from the community.
She said: “She’s overwhelmed, she doesn’t want to bother anyone. She’s such a lovely lady, an absolutely incredible woman.”
