In a town where some pavements have become a mosaic of discarded chewing gum, Watford Borough Council (WBC) is stepping in to tackle the issue head-on.
After being awarded a £12,000 grant from the Chewing Gum Task Force, administered by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy (KBT), WBC is aiming to clean up Queens Road.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We’re really pleased to receive this funding to tackle chewing gum on Queens Road.
“Last year’s campaign made a real difference on St Albans Road, and we’re aiming to build on that in other locations around the town.”
Speaking to WATFORDnews, KBT chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “Chewing gum continues to be an unsightly form of litter in our public spaces.
“People need to remember that disposing of their gum causes harm to our environment, as it takes years to decompose naturally.”
