STORY LINE: Telephone box community library and kiosk officially opens in Pinner

Published on: 8th April 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

After months of planning, organising and teamwork, a telephone box in Pinner has been transformed into a community library and careers noticeboard.

The project has been three years in the making, with Pinner resident Annesley Abercorn purchasing the Grade II listed unit for £1 from BT. He recruited volunteers from the local area to help clean, repaint and reshelve the unit, which took around six months in total.

On Saturday, March 29, EastEnders star Louisa Lytton, officially opened The Dream Trust UK charity’s Pinner telephone kiosk on Pinner High Street.

Joined by 100 members of the community, founder and chairman of The Dream Trust UK charity Annesley shared his love for the area and the importance of community spirit.

Louisa spoke about the necessity of giving young people opportunities as she cut the ribbon and took selfies with EastEnders fans.

The library will work on a bring-one take-one basis and already contains a variety of titles including local history, fiction and children’s books.

It also has a careers noticeboard, and any local businesses that would like advertise job or work experience opportunities can contact The Dream Trust to advertise.

Annesley explained that the charity will now be uploading the planning application, architect design specifications and drawings, and heritage statement so that any town or village in the UK wishing to replicate this conversion can do so with ease.

He said: “The Dream Trust UK and the Pinner community hope that this new facility will provide much welcome service for many years to come.

“This community library is dedicated in loving memory to Linda Matlin, a longstanding Pinner resident who sadly passed away last year and worked for 40 years in the book industry.”
