FIRE AWAY! Firefighters show off their skills at Pinner community open day

Published on: 23rd November 2023   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Harrow Fire Station in Pinner celebrated a fantastic open day on October 21, where residents from the local community were able to get hands-on and see what life is like as a firefighter.

The event was attended by cadets from Brent and Harrow, who got involved with throwing wet sponges at borough commander Rob Hazzard and watched a demonstration by colleagues from Wembley and Hayes fire stations.

There was even a visit from fire investigation dog Simba, whose commander Anton demonstrated how Simba is trained to identify a variety of ignitable substances. His sensitive nose means he can identify a much smaller amount of the substances than a person.

London Fire Brigade posted on social media: “It was great to have so many from the local community visit and learn about what we do!

“Huge thanks to our colleagues from Wembley and Hayes fire stations for coming over to show off your specialist skills and appliances; it’s very much appreciated.”
