Maternity staff at Watford General Hospital have attended a viewing party for the premiere of a documentary TV series highlighting their work.
At a special showing on Thursday, August 22, the team of around 50 midwives, nurses and support workers gathered at Watford FC to see themselves in the premiere episode of Emma Willis: Delivering Babies, now on its fourth series.
In January of this year, the TV presenter joined staff at the hospital for 10 weeks, with cameras following her for six episodes which show her journey to becoming a qualified maternity support worker.
Chief Nurse of the Trust, Kelly McGovern, spoke to Watford News about what it was like to work with Emma, and then watch herself and her colleagues on the small screen.
She said: “It was really nice and refreshing to see what we see every day on film. At the screening, there was laughter, there were tears, and it made me really proud of my team.
“The company that produces the show, Firecracker Films, are amazing. You forget that they are there filming, and they’re really sensitive and compassionate. As for Emma, she became part of the hospital family.”
Kelly also said it was a great way for the general public to see how a maternity ward operates, and how the staff cope with any challenges thrown their way.
She added: “These programmes really alleviate people’s fears, especially when it’s your local hospital. There are real challenging situations shown in the programme. But how well the staff work and care for mum, dad and baby comes across fantastically. I’m really impressed.”
The new series of Emma Willis: Delivering Babies will premiere at 9 pm on Thursday, September 5. Viewers can stream all episodes for free on U, or tune in live on the U&W channel.
