Croxley councillor Chris Lloyd recently attended the Hertfordshire Violence against Women and Girls Conference in preparation for White Ribbon Day on Monday, November 25.

One of the keynote speakers was Hoda Ali, a human rights activist and campaigner against female genital mutilation. She shared her own experiences at the conference, which cllr Lloyd described to be “very harrowing but showed the importance of her work”.

Cllr Lloyd told Croxley News: “One in four women in their lifetime will experience abuse. Twenty per cent of police cases in Hertfordshire are domestic abuse or violence against women.

“If want to show support, join the White Ribbon Campaign and wear a white ribbon.

“Buildings in Hertfordshire are being lit up in orange during the 16 Days of Activism (from Monday, November 25, to Tuesday, December 10) to stand against violence against women and girls in Hertfordshire.”

The conference’s closing speaker was Harriet Johnson, author of Enough: The Violence Against Women and How to End It.
