CRICKET KINDNESS: Sarratt resident’s project continues to support communities across the globe

Published on: 26th August 2021   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Sarratt resident’s charitable initiative continues to go from strength to strength with Croxley schools contributing to the cause.

Tamara Lowe set up The Cricket Kindness Project five years ago with the aim of distributing cricket and other sporting equipment into the hands of disadvantaged communities.

Since then, several schools including Croxley’s York House have donated equipment with the village school donating to the project three times.

Tamara said she decided to set up the project whilst living in Australia five years ago to help “level the playing field” of sport and provide opportunities for all.

She said: “The aim is to place cricket equipment and other sporting equipment in the hands of disadvantaged communities by collecting vast amounts of pre-loved cricket gear but also new gear.

“I also refurbish the gear if it’s not quite good enough condition and then donate very large shipments to impoverished communities.

“Cricket is an expensive sport, you need kit to play and without it you can’t.”

Tamara spoke of the importance of the input from schools such as York House in helping support the project.

She said: “What is really great is when schools tell students about the Cricket Kindness Project and if anyone has any outgrowing gear they can create a central collection point at the school.

“York House has done it three times already, they have been very supportive.”

In the last five years Tamara has shipped 12 containers all around the world and is still accepting gear until September 10.
