STAFF SOLIDARITY: Nurses raise money for Down’s Syndrome Association

Published on: 27th October 2023   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

Staff from Daybreak Nurseries in Rickmansworth have raised £700 for Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) through a sponsored walk on Saturday, October 21.

The team walked from Rickmansworth station to Moor Park station and back again, spanning a total distance of 21km.

Despite stormy skies and getting lost in the woods, the group finished their walk victorious after just over seven hours.

According to team member Danielle McGrath, staff at Daybreak Nurseries were inspired to support DSA after a little boy who has Down’s Syndrome joined the nursery.

Far surpassing their initial fundraising target of £150, the team is overjoyed to have raised more than £700 for the only charity in the UK supporting individuals with Down’s Syndrome on a lifelong basis.

During the walk itself, the group kept followers updated on the nursery’s social media.

Danielle explained: “We wanted to keep the little boy’s parents and his family regularly updated, plus everyone else who sponsored us.”

Once the walk was finished, an official representative from the group posted on Facebook: “I would like to say a massive thank you to the staff who took part today and pushed on through and got behind the cause. [Thanks] to the parents of the little boy who donated Nature Valley bars for the staff to eat whilst walking, and all the husbands and partners who have had to look after children on their own today!”
