Spring watch in your back garden

Published on: 7th May 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Wildlife is preparing to flourish in Stanmore after a birdbox attached to a man’s house has a nesting bird inside.

Peter Bradley and his wife received the birdbox as a wedding anniversary present from his son Adrian three years ago with a camera inside.

Peter set the box up on the side of his house hoping that a bird would nest in the box.

He said: “We set it up on the side of the house and invited the grandchildren over to watch and absolutely nothing happened. We looked a year later and still nothing.

“Quite honestly, we had given up, but we came back from holiday and I had noticed movement in the garden so had a look. To our delight we found a nest.”

Being a big Peanuts fan, the family decided to call the female bird Lucy. The female bird takes on the sole responsibility for nest building and the male provides food for them – who if of course called Charlie Brown.

Adrian Bradley has set up a live feed from the next to show when the birds hatch.

Peter added: “It is causing great excitement with our neighbours now they can all watch live. They are particularly active in the early mornings and early evenings about 7.15am. I hope people get as much fun out of it as we are.

Peter expects the eggs will hatch soon after StanmoreNews goes to press. To watch, search ‘Stanmore bird box’ on YouTube.
