While this year’s Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) wasn’t one we could have envisioned beforehand, a local photographer has made sure it won’t soon be forgotten.
Su Kaye, of Su Kaye Photography, put together a montage of Radlett residents who were celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday, May 8 while socially distancing on their streets.
She posted the video shortly after and said: “So VE Day wasn’t what had been planned but many people made the most of the day and socialised at a distance on Friday. Thank you to everyone who was happy to be photographed and included in this local memory.
“Sorry I couldn’t see more people but had to be mindful to observe the current restrictions.”
Speaking to RadlettNews, she added: “There’s a lot of photographers who have been doing lockdown photography, where they take photos of local people on their doorsteps as a reminder of the times we’re in, but I’ve been reluctant because I didn’t feel it was essential work.
“However, VE Day felt important and I knew I could do it safely, at a distance. I’m now going to be doing lockdown photography to raise money for the NHS.”
