SPLIT STOPPED: Proposals to split Gerrards Cross into two wards officially scrapped

The Boundary Commission for England’s (BCE) controversial plans to split Gerrards Cross in two as part of a redesign of county seat borders have officially been scrapped.

The changes would have seen part of Gerrards Cross moved into the Chalfont St Peter Ward.

Following objections from residents, alterations were made to the proposals in order to keep the town together. On Tuesday, May 30, the final draft of the new wards was published, confirming that the whole town will now be included in the new Gerrards Cross & Denham Ward.

These changes have been made by BCE to ensure areas are represented by the right number of elected officials relative to their population.

Confirmation of this will come as a relief to those Gerrards Cross residents who campaigned against the move with the slogan ‘Stop the Split’.

Publishing the recommendations, BCE chair Professor Colin Mellors said: “We are very grateful to people in Buckinghamshire. They helped us improve our earlier proposals.”

The new boundary changes are set to come into effect in May 2025, provided they are passed in Parliament.
