SPEED CENTRAL: Northwood residents speak out on speeding after car flips in recent incident

Following reports of repeated speeding in Hallowell Road in last month’s edition of Northwood & Ruislip News, residents of other local streets have also shared their concerns.

This comes in the aftermath of another incident in which a car flipped onto its roof at the junction of Dene Road and Trinity Close on Wednesday, July 10. A woman was injured and taken to hospital.

An anonymous resident of Dene Road told Northwood & Ruislip News that speeding is a persistent problem on their street.

They said: “Every year, when the police send a questionnaire about issues, I always put speeding at the top, but no one has ever got back to me.

“We’ve got kids on the road all the time due to the number of schools, and a large elderly population.

“We’d like to see speed cameras installed. I’m sure that they’d pay for themselves in no time.”

Another road said to be a hotspot for speeding drivers is The Fairway. Resident Martin Higginson warned that it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.

He added: “We repeatedly get cars travelling at 50-plus miles per hour down The Fairway. I am unaware of any police activity to catch the culprits.”

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “The issue of speeding vehicles is taken very seriously and we will take action where there is evidence of an offence occurring. Our ward officers also take actions to prevent further offences occurring.

“As is the case across London, our ward priorities are set by the ward panel and the neighbourhoods’ superintendent and we focus our resources on these issues.

“We would encourage members of the public to provide feedback on these priorities and engage with local ward panels, in order to be involved in setting the priorities for their wards.”
