‘SPECIAL LANDSCAPE’: Berkhamsted woodland management project aids estate’s biodiversity efforts

Published on: 17th February 2025   |   By: Owen Barnard   |   Category: Uncategorized

A woodland management project has been carried out at Ashridge Estate in Berkhamsted in the hopes of letting in more light and enhancing biodiversity.

The project, which was completed at Broad Green Ride near Tom’s Hill, aimed to develop a more varied set of habitats in the area, which would bring benefits to species such as butterflies.

The works began on Monday, January 13, and were set to be finished in February.

The news comes soon after the National Trust celebrated its 130th anniversary. Ashridge Estate has been a part of the organisation for the last century.

In a post on Facebook, Ashridge House said: “We are proud to have been part of this legacy for 100 years. Thanks to local activist Bridget Elizabeth Talbot’s visionary campaign, this special landscape was saved from development, allowing countless visitors to experience a century of its beauty, tranquillity and history.”
