While times may be difficult for elderly residents, those at Lancaster Court Care Home in Leavesden will have the fond memories of meeting penguins to tie them over.
The residents, family members and staff at Lancaster Court Care Home, in High Road, were treated to a special visit from two Penguins called Charlie, aged 22 and Groot, aged one, at the end of February.
They attended the home and were accompanied by Aaron, main keeper from Amazing Animals. The whole home erupted into complete excitement at the opportunity of meeting the penguins in person.
The idea came initially from Adele Osborn, who saw the Penguins on BBC News visiting a care home and asked her manager Ann Hill if they could be invited to the home.
Manager Ann said she did not expect the response and reaction from all who live, work and visit the home.
The atmosphere was compared with a royal visit –residents loved the opportunity to touch, feel and interact with the penguins and Aaron showed great care to them.
Children from Beechfield School in Watford also came to see the penguins, much to the delight of residents.
A Lancaster Court spokesperson said: “Thank you Amazing Animals for bringing joy and happiness to the residents, staff, children and visitors to the home. It may have cost, but it was worth every penny. Next visit is monkeys – watch out, here they come.”
