SPECIAL CONCERT: Reunion for former blind school pupils awakens memories

Published on: 13th December 2021   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Former pupils at a girls school for the blind were invited for a special concert at the retirement home that now resides where it was.

From 1921 to 1987, Chorleywood College, located inside Cedars Manor House, provided an education for many young girls who were either blind or partially sighted.

And to celebrate what would have been the school’s centenary, several former students returned to the building on Saturday, December 4, to spend the day reminiscing before performing a concert of music, carols and memories in the afternoon.

Having kept in touch over the years and coming from all corners of the country, the women have been rehearsing for the performance over video messaging. This was the first time they’d performed in the same room together.

Nowadays, Cedars Manor House is a part of Cedars Retirement Village. Residents watched the concert and help guide the women, now all mostly in their fifties and sixties, around their former school.

Many commented on the remarkable way the former schoolchildren remembered their way around the building.
