A new set of cycling challenges in the town are set to test the mettle of residents and raise money for charitable funds.
The new ‘Tour de Ricky’ challenge comprises a set of races to take place on May 21, varying in length from 50km, 100km and 200km. However, the rides will be using an ‘Audax’ format, meaning they are not competitive races and riders are expected to give each other support.
A minimum time limit is also to cyclists to encourage the community feeling of the occasion and prevent people speeding off. ‘Audax’ races have a history of firmly forged friendships and people helping one another.
The challenge comes from the directions of the ride, with cyclists getting GPS files and route sheets to guide them to specific waypoints on the course map.
Organised by volunteers at Willesden Cycling Club, the route will take participants from Woodoaks Farm through the picturesque Chilterns. Those taking the longer courses will journey through Buckinghamshire and even Oxfordshire.
Any profits made by the event will be split evenly between CW Wildlife Rescue, Woodoaks Farm and Willesden Cycling Club.
